THE HUMAN COST - The Story of Elder Chatham Davis

For nearly a year, I have listened to stories that most people would never believe could happen inside a church. Elderly members displaced from sanctuaries they helped build. Lifelong pastors left without answers. Members silenced for asking questions. Decisions made behind closed doors while the very people who dedicated decades of their lives to the House of God were left to discover the consequences only after everything had already been done. One story became two. Two became ten. Soon a pattern began to emerge.

This is not simply a story about church governance. It is a story about secrecy, power, stewardship, and the human cost of decisions made without transparency. It is about men and women in their seventies and eighties who devoted their lives to a faith community, only to find themselves searching for answers after churches were sold, congregations displaced, and relationships severed. Their stories deserve to be heard, not because they are extraordinary, but because they are real.

As this investigation continued, it became clear that the story did not end within the walls of the church. Property transactions, corporate filings, public records, and the involvement of outside professionals raise additional questions that deserve careful examination. In the chapters ahead, we will explore the role of the companies and individuals connected to these transactions, including the real estate firms involved. Because this story is far bigger than most people can imagine, and understanding it requires following every part of the trail.

Today, we begin with the human cost.

Today, we begin with the story of Elder Chatham Davis.

A man who entered the House of God Church at nine years old. A pastor who devoted nearly seventy years of his life to the church he loved. His story is only one of many, but it illustrates what can happen when decisions made in boardrooms are ultimately felt in the lives of people.
