Our Work

The Church Accountability Initiative is actively engaged in advocacy, education, and support efforts nationwide. Our work responds to recurring patterns that place elders, congregations, and sacred spaces at risk. These patterns often emerge quietly through governance failures, lack of transparency, and decisions made without meaningful community inclusion. In South Florida, we are currently working within historically Black communities including West Park, Dania, Miami Gardens, and Pompano, where churches have long served as anchors of stability, care, and continuity. Our efforts in these communities prioritize safeguarding elders, maintaining sacred places, and ensuring community members have a voice in shaping the institutions they built. Beyond South Florida, this work is national in scope. We are actively reviewing and assessing similar concerns and inquiries in other regions, including California, South Carolina, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Connecticut, Nevada, Alabama, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. As this work expands, additional locations and initiatives will be shared. As part of this work, we have engaged local government and community institutions to seek assistance and guidance, particularly where elders and indigent individuals are left without clear options for support. These efforts reflect a broader reality. When people lack resources, representation, or the means to advocate for themselves, their voices are too often overlooked or ignored. This is especially true for underserved communities, where concerns may be dismissed simply because individuals cannot afford access, counsel, or influence. Our work seeks to ensure that elders and vulnerable individuals are not left without support, and that their concerns are recognized as matters of justice, fairness, and human dignity.
